Sustainability Advisor – Construction – Birmingham / West Midlands + Hybrid / Remote

Opportunity for a permanent Sustainability Advisor to join one of the UK's most successful Tier 1 building & civil engineering main contractors, with a very stable and fast growing forward order book.

Role:

The primary goal of the Sustainability Adviser is to support the improvements environmental sustainability in the business through their People Planet Performance strategy. This will include finding ways to further reduce water and energy consumption, minimise waste, and supporting our supply chain to improve their sustainability too.

 The Sustainability Adviser will also research and develop new ways we can innovate and improve sustainability, with a particular focus on carbon reduction. This will involve staying up to date with related sustainability practices to ensure our strategy and programmes are compliant. Supporting implementation and tracking the effectiveness of sustainability initiatives will also be key.

As well as minimising the environmental impact of the company, this role will also prepare sustainability good news items, learning materials and training sessions to improve awareness of what we are doing amongst our staff and our clients.

 

Duties:

As Sustainability Advisor your duties will include:

  • Researching sustainability and environmental issues and best practices
  • Creating new sustainability programmes and supporting initiatives to make us more sustainable e.g. recycling, reducing energy usage
  • Identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement across the business, collaborating with department leads and colleagues to find practical and cutting-edge solutions.
  • Monitoring our achievement of sustainability KPIs and targets and driving continuous improvement
  • Working with company Environmental Team to support delivery of initiatives.
  • Driving the implementation of sustainability targets, working closely with key departments and establishing standards, systems, and procedures to improve performance.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulations related to sustainability.
  • Analysing data, and ownership of our PPN 06/212 Carbon Reduction Plan, Energy Saving Opportunity Scheme (ESOS)and associated audits.
  • Identifying and creating staff and supply chain training programmes
  • Managing the budget for sustainability initiatives
  • Supporting on Framework and local bids.

 

Requirements:

To be considered for this Sustainability Advisor role you must meet the following criteria:

-Previous work in a Sustainability Advisor / Sustainability Manager / Sustainability Coordinator or similar role.

-Degree (or similar equivalent) in a relevant sustainability or construction subject

-Ideally previous construction main contractor or consultancy employment history.

-Understanding of environment and sustainability best practices

-Ability to gather, analyse, highlight trends and turn data into information to make sustainability decisions.

-Competence with technology and software programs

-Ability to work with stakeholder groups, including clients, senior managers, and other advisers.

-Experience of audit processes.

-Experience generating and delivering on Sustainability roadmaps

-Genuine passion for sustainability
