Site Engineer – Building / Infrastructure / MOD – South Colchester

Opportunity to join one of the UK's most successful Tier 1 building & civil engineering main contractors, with a very stable and fast growing forward order book.

Looking for a Site Engineer to join the team and be part of a new project, to design and construct two state-of-the-art firing ranges for the MOD, together with the supporting infrastructure, buildings and services. The work is predominantly earthworks and civils.  This is a site based role, located South of Colchester.  

 

Role: 

You will assist other setting out engineer and site engineers to achieve the required high expectations of the project delivery team and the customers' objectives, while maintaining standards of health and safety, quality, environmental impact and cost control.

Duties:

  • A basic to excellent understanding of setting out fundamentals from first principles, and preferably able to process and understand 3D models, and conversant with GPS equipment.
  • Assisting in daily planning and contributing to site management and processes.
  • Completing daily/weekly surveys of any work being carried out where necessary
  • Contributing to site diaries and record keeping
  • Problem solving on site and helping site supervisors come up with solutions based on engineering understanding and experience
  • Ensuring works are carried out to specification and compliant with Quality standards which would stand up to audit
  • Upholding a high standard of Health & Safety and effectively contributing to success in this area with the rest of your team
  •  An understanding of commercial awareness, efficiency and productivity.
  • Maintaining excellent and effective working relationships with the customer and their representatives/advisors;
  • Implementing company Construction's Strategy and Policies for Sustainability, Health and Safety, Quality, Environmental, Training and Development etc. and acting as an exemplar of the Company culture and values;
  • Implementing the Companies Business Management System;
  • Supporting initiatives to deliver ongoing continuous improvement;
  • Line management responsibilities, including the undertaking of annual appraisal and development for junior members of staff;
  • Ensuring that the project works comply with the requirements of the contract specification and drawings etc. and maintaining appropriate records etc to confirm such compliance;
  • Any other duties relevant to the role.

Requirements:

To be considered for this Site Engineer role you must meet the following criteria:

  • A construction or civil engineering degree or HNC/HND, or working towards it
  • Good organisation skills
  • Preferably previous experience with engineering or surveying using GPS and total stations
  • Preferably enough knowledge in LSS to process data, create accurate composites and report volumes, and interpret surveys
  • Excellent communication skills•
  • Preferably SMSTS or SSSTS, or IOSH equivalent training
  • Safety Level 1 course;
  • Appropriate CSCS Card;
  • Appropriate technical knowledge and main contractor construction experience;
  • Professional pride and a commitment to Quality
  • An interest in modern engineering and construction techniques, sustainable initiative and carbon reduction
  • Keen problem solvers with engineering solutions and resilience to see task through
  •  Understanding working methods and forward planning, with some programming ability
  • Comprehensive experience as a Site Engineer working for a main contractor (essential);
  • Experience as a Graduate or Trainee Site Engineer.
  • Ability to plan and manage time;
  • Strong attention to detail.

Remuneration:

The successful Site Engineer will receive:

-£35,000 - £48,000 Basic
