Wanted – Senior Infrastructure Engineer – I.T

Excellent opportunity to join one of the UK's leading Tier 1 building & civil engineering contractors to play a key role in their I.T Operations & Infrastructure team.

 

ROLE:

The role of the Senior Infrastructure Engineer is to provide a senior level of technical leadership and subject matter expertise within the Infrastructure and Operations team. 

The Senior Infrastructure Engineer will be a subject matter expert across all technical areas within the relevant infrastructure team to ensure solution compliance to service and technical standards. 

The Senior Infrastructure Engineer shall mentor, guide, and coach other team members to develop comprehensive and relevant skills within the team and will contribute to the development, optimisation and adherence to the operational processes, toolsets, and procedures. 

As a Subject Matter Expert within the infrastructure area the Senior Infrastructure Engineer will advise and participate in Projects, Problem Management, Change Management and be a key member of technical governance activities for the team. 

The Senior Infrastructure Engineer will act as solution and technical architect working with the IT team and service providers. 

The Senior Infrastructure Engineer will have the management skills to coordinate and lead technical teams to achieve complex technical goals, deal with key stakeholders and offer advice and consultancy in a variety of situations.

The Senior Infrastructure Engineer will be a key member of the IT Operations & Infrastructure team and be integral to help mature the capability within the IT function.

 

DUTIES:

 

Planning

-Supporting the development of the IT Infrastructure strategic plans and contributing to operational improvements plan for the IT Infrastructure area

-Supporting project planning activities for projects to reach their technical goals

-Reviewing & contributing to the technical detail of change requests and routine maintenance activities

-Supporting and contributing to root cause analysis activities

-Contributing to the planning of knowledge and skill acquisition for the team so that technical training and skills meet the short- and long-term objectives for the team

-Contributing to capacity planning and capacity management, proactively identifying required improvements and capacity constraints

Financial Responsibilities

-Supporting service design and service delivery management functions in defining relevant service charging models based on the underlying service technology

-Contributing to the review and assurance of cost and pricing for solutions provided to the end-customer or provided by 3rd Parties

-Technical input for producing quotes and solution pricing

Operational Responsibilities

-Participate in the technical design and governance bodies

-Provide technical expertise for engineering activities across the team

-Identify technical improvements and develop Operational Improvement Plans

-Develop or assure technical solutions provided by the team

-Responsible for implementing and maintaining overall technical design and configurations for the existing service technology

-Develop and assure correct and relevant toolsets for the delivery of the service including monitoring, deployment, backup, reporting and other operational tools

-Contribute to the activities relating to strategic IT projects including business case development, technology assessments, high level design work, due diligence and other activities related to the future technologies

-Represent the team at key ITIL process touch points including change advisory boards, problem management, technical design authority, major incident management

-Provide hands-on engineering support and expertise to complex technical activities such as root cause analysis, trouble shooting, project recovery/remediation plans, technical risk assessments, SME consultancy and advice

-Undertake technical feasibility and compatibility testing for introduction of new or non-standard technology

-Triages and advises on non-standard demand from the business

-Engages with suppliers to review technology and innovation opportunities, forming proposals and business cases for options and opportunities

-Responsible for technical risk assessments and technical approval activities for Projects, Change Management and Problem Management

-Support business and service continuity activities including planning and reporting as well as support security assurance activities including planning and reporting

-Work with engineers to assure that service infrastructure is maintained with latest firmware and software requirements

-Troubleshoot and resolve all expedited issues impacting the customers’ challenges and needs

-Monitor and report the overall performance of service components against KPI’s and takes pre-emptive measures to minimise interruptions

-Identify opportunities and recommend solutions for improving the overall service health by assessing overall effectiveness and efficiency

-Evaluate new technologies and platforms to determine whether their applicability aligns with businesses needs

-Willing to undergo SC clearance as required by different contracts.

Leadership and People Management

  • Coordinate and oversee technical activities and teams to respond to Major Incidents      
  • Coordinate and oversee root cause analysis activities for the team
  • Provides technical leadership through maintaining and understanding of current and future technologies
  • Is a technical focal point and knowledge source for all team members
  • Leads technical coaching of team members for key technology or process activities

Interaction with Customers

  • Support across business engagement activities where SME knowledge or advice is required, including preparing technical options, feasibility discussions, technical explanations for incidents and issues
  • Prepare results of technical analysis or root cause analysis results for customer
  • Set up and maintain strong relationships with the business by effectively managing expectations and inspiring confidence in delivery
  • Develop customer communications consistently demonstrates exemplary customer service standards
  • Proactively communicates the status, plan of action(s), and resolution(s) of issues
  • Liaise with principles and engineers in other teams to ensure continuity of service across IT

  

 

REQUIREMENTS:

To be considered for this Senior Infrastructure Engineer role you must meet the following criteria:

 

-Excellent leadership and motivational people management skills

-Professional acumen, with excellent senior level influencing

-At least 5 years’ experience within the Microsoft desktop environment

-Experience in multiple technology disciplines from Junior to Senior levels

    • Microsoft Endpoint Manager (application packaging and deployment, OS maintenance deployment and upgrade)
    • Windows operating systems
    • Azure AD (Group Policy creation, amendment and modification)
    • Intune MDM (Maintenance and update)
    • Cloud technologies (Azure, M365, Office365)

-Experiencing in writing and compiling reports

-Demonstrable knowledge and experience of Scripting technologies to interact with MEM and other related services on-premises and cloud

-Experience within a mature shared service or commercial IT services operation

-Experience of producing technical designs from high to low levels

-Experience of managing people/teams/virtual teams

-Experience of planning and delivering change projects

-Ability to drive change and influence through building strong relationships and having a solid commercial awareness

-Good analytical skills and previous exposure to medium/large change programmes

-Strong ITIL, project management concept awareness knowledge

-Experience of implementing cross functional IT process change

-A Technical Computer Science Degree, Higher Education qualification or extensive business technical experience

-High-level and up-to-date technical qualifications relevant to virtualization, cloud technologies

-Relevant ITIL qualification
