Health, Safety & Environment Advisor - Construction / Building 

North West & Yorkshire Projects 

 

Location: You will be covering projects in the North West and Yorkshire region.

Reputable Tier 1 Building Main Contractor.

Role:

Reporting to the Head of HSE Manager at HQ you will be responsible for all on site health, safety & environmental issues for the companies northern region. You will be responsible for ensuring policies and procedures are implemented, adhered to and developed in line with company policies and HSE guidelines.

Duties:

  • Support the HSE Director and the HSE Managers with planning, coordination and implementing of effective HSE policies, guidelines and procedures to ensure that the HSE objectives are met;
  • Liaise, co-operate with and seek advice from the Regional HSE Manager or Health and Safety Director, Managers and colleagues on matters appertaining to company arrangements and standards for health and safety.
  • Provide a source of competent advice on health, safety and environmental matters to all those within their area.
  • Be digital aware and have an awareness of modern methods of construction and ability to influence heath and safety in design.
  • Be enthusiastic in promoting leading health, safety and environmental standards.
  • Provide assistance if required with specialist health and safety assessments i.e. noise assessments
  • Undertake inspections of all workplaces within their business area, compiling an accurate report for the company manager for that workplace detailing inspection findings
  • Provide briefing and coaching on the implementation of company arrangements with respect to health, safety and the environment
  • Provide both formal and informal health and safety training to all levels of the organisation/workforce
  • Lead / participate in accident and incident investigations.
  • Other duties as required to promote and improve the health, safety and environmental standards and performance within their region
  • Liaise with client/customer representatives to foster a good relationship
  • Conduct periodical inspections to verify effective HSE Management;
  • Conduct periodical inspections to verify the availability and correct working conditions of the installed or assigned emergency response equipment;
  • Participates in Site HSE walks with Subcontractors;
  • Conducts HSE site Inspections in S/C working areas;
  • Periodically verifies that all personnel in the work area know what to do in case of emergency condition and how to evacuate the area if instructed to do so;
  • Analyses work items in progress to detect any risks and proposes solutions for improvement;
  • Attends internal and external HSE Audits;
  • Conducts while required the HSE site induction of new project personnel;
  • Verifies that toolbox meetings are well performed  within the labour force;
  • Follows-up of close-out reports;
  • Prepares Monthly Inspection Programme;
  • Takes part in regular inspections of the project, establishes reports;
  • Reports to Regional HSE Manager, HSE Director in case of accidents, incidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, etc.
  • Takes part of the accident analyses, incidents and near misses which happen in the region;
  • Must suspend work execution immediately whenever informed or discovers an imminent risk of serious injury.


Requirements:

To be considered for this Health and Safety Advisor role you must meet the following criteria:

- Knowledge of Building / construction sector.  
- Previous employment as a Health & Safety Manager, Health & Safety Coordinator, Health and Safety Advisor, SHE Manager, HSE Manager, H&S Assistant or similar.
- Previous experience ideally in building sector projects such as Commercial, Mixed Use, Residential, Apartment Blocks, Student Accommodation, Hotels, Extra Care Housing, MOJ, Industrial, Retail, Education or Healthcare. Civils sector may also be considered.
- NEBOSH Certificate. 

-Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (or working towards)

- Construction site safety knowledge and experience. 
- Ideally Previous Main Contractor or subcontractor employment.
- High level of communication skills.



  Remuneration:

The successful Health & Safety Advisor  will receive:

-£40,000 - £55,000 (Dependent on experience)
-Car Allowance
-Pension
-Healthcare
