BID MANAGER - BUILDING / CONSTRUCTION

(LONDON OFFICE / REMOTE HOME WORKING SPLIT)

Opportunity to join a leading Tier 1 building & FIT OUT main contactor based in London. Also includes mix of remote working.

An opportunity has arisen within a successful regional business to join the pre-construction department in a key role within the work winning team.

Operating across a range of sectors in both the private and public sectors working for a diverse range of clients from government departments to private developers. Working with a team of commercial, technical, operational, and external partners you will coordinate and manage the bid process for construction projects up to £20m in line with the company’s brand, position and processes. From receipt of initial RFP/ITT documents you will lead a bid team to ensure the right technical and commercial offer is brought together into a winning proposal within often tight deadlines.

The candidate should have previous experience within a bid management role, working within the construction sector or related industries. They should possess a detailed understanding of the work winning process, understanding how to develop client focused strategies into smart, compelling, consistent, customer-focused documents and presentations. The candidate should have some technical knowledge of construction, be efficient, able to meet deadlines and co-ordinate a team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Appraisal of ITT/RFP documentation to identify key risks and opportunities.
  • Organising and leading bid strategy meetings.
  • Formulating bid programmes.
  • Leading the bid management process.
  • Undertake detailed Client, project and Stakeholder research.
  • Working with the bid team to develop a bespoke strategy for each bid.
  • Provide guidance and develop answer plans to ensure the strategy is embedded in the tender submission.
  • Follow the companies bid process and ensure all activities follow corporate governance.
  • Review tender documents to understand the Client requirements and deliverables and respond accordingly.
  • Stakeholder engagement including management of input from various stakeholder groups including construction, fit out, design and estimating.
  • Set tender deliverables, establishing owners and setting deadlines for content.
  • Monitoring and reporting on progress / tender programme.
  • Management of client and consultant communications, including the dissemination of information to the team and organisation of the appropriate actions.
  • Write/develop non-technical content such as executive summaries, H&S, quality, CVs, experience etc.
  • Provide support on the development of technical content where required - understanding and resolving complex technical, strategic, and business issues.
  • Proofread copy and ensuring returns are compliant and align with client requirements and bid strategy.
  • Ensure that project solutions demonstrate clear USPs and key strategic advantage.
  • Leading the development of a timely bid response that exceeds our client’s expectations.
  • Preparing presentations and attending interviews.
  • Formulating and developing alternative proposals inc. value engineering and optioneering.
  • Input into the planning and programming and the development of construction methodologies.
  • To support and be familiar with own role and responsibility in respect of Business Continuity Planning (ensuring that team members are also aware of the plans and communicates same).
  • Develop and contribute to a shared bid library.
  • Promote equality and diversity in the workplace.

Requirements: 

To be considered for this Bid Manager vacancy you will likely have the following attributes:

- You Strive for High Quality and take pride in your work.
- Previous employment as a Bid Writer, Bid Manager, Proposals Manager, Proposals Engineer, Submissions Manager, Tender Writer, Bid Author or Bid Coordinator.
- Ideally Previous Main Contractor employment, alternatively candidates with previous employer with Subcontractors and Consultancies will also be considered.

-Good knowledge of building, fit out and general construction techniques and methodology (desirable).

-Proficient use of Microsoft Office inc. Word, Excel & PowerPoint.

-Competent use of Adobe Creative Cloud products, in particular InDesign (highly desirable).

-A good understanding of the differences between Public and Private Sector Clients and how our response should be tailored to suit.

-Track record as a Bid Manager with a successful construction related business.

- Excellent English language (vocabulary), grammar and communication skills

- Adaptable to deal with changing project requirements and deadlines

- A naturally inquisitive nature to challenge ideas and provide new innovative solutions

Remuneration:

The successful Bid Manager will receive:

*£75,000 - £90,000 Basic (Dependent on experience)
